The Council Decision of June 5th 2008 authorizing certain member States to ratify, or accede to the 1996 Hague Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Coöperation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children has been published.
The decision allows Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom to ratify, or accede to it. The Convention is already in force in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Bulgaria acceded to the Convention on March 8th 2006. All other EU States (except Malta) have signed it.
